Gingerbread week!

This week we’ve loved cooking! Every child got the opportunity to bake gingerbread this week and they were so proud of their creations. Thanks for the pictures of the children enjoying their creations. We love cooking, it gives us so much of a learning experience. We can talk about the ingredients, smell, taste, use our arm muscles to mix and knead, share with our friends, listen to instructions and pay attention, talk about how we can measure and have fun!

We know lots of you have enjoyed the gingerbread so our recipe is

1/2 cup softened butter1/2 cup dark brown sugar1/4 cup golden syrup1 medium egg1 1/4 cup self raising flour1 tsp ginger1/2 tsp cinnamon1/2 tsp mixed spice1/2 tsp baking powder

Mix the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the syrup and egg and mix again. Add the remaining ingredients and mix until it comes together. Lightly knead until a dough. Form into a ball and wrap in clingfilm and chill for one hour in fridge. Flour surface and roll out dough. Cut out gingerbread shapes.Bake for 15-18 mins (180 or gas mark 4), should be lightly golden and just firm in the middle.
